40Cr alloy belongs to gb3077 "alloy structural steel". The carbon content of 40Cr steel is 0.37% ~ 0.44%, which is slightly lower than that of 45 steel. The content of Si and Mn is equivalent, and the content of Cr is 0.80% ~ 1.10%. In the case of hot rolling supply, the 1% Cr basically does not work, and their mechanical properties are roughly the same. Because the price of A573 Grade 65 structural quality is about half of that of 45 steel, 40Cr is not needed for the purpose of economy.

The chemical composition of the alloy wear-resistant layer is 4-5% carbon and 25-30% chromium. The volume fraction of Cr7C3 carbide in the metallographic structure is more than 50%. The macro hardness is HRC56-62 and the hardness of chromium carbide is HV1400-1800. Because the carbides are distributed perpendicularly in the direction of wear, even when compared with cast alloys of the same composition and hardness, the wear resistance is more than doubled.

Molybdenum is a well known alloy element. Molybdenum can refine the grains of steel material, improve the hardenability and thermal strength, and maintain sufficient strength and creep resistance at high temperature. Adding molybdenum to A573 Grade 65 structural quality, structural steel can improve mechanical properties. Molybdenum can also restrain the brittleness of alloy steel caused by quenching treatment.
